Public Act proudly presents a socially engaged Art practice…

“Performance hART – Strengthening Community through Performance Art.“

Open to all community members, multi-disciplinary artists, activists and rebels who are drawn to the non-permanent, site-specific nature and psychomagic of performance art.

In this course we will use a ‘radical-tenderness’ performance pedagogy (based on the work of Guillermo Gomez-Pena) mixed with applied and physical theatre exercises, to experiment with each others artistic, political, social and spiritual behaviours to create performance imagery and persona.

The creative process is open to Multi-disciplinary artists who want to integrate performance art into their artistic and professional life but also suitable for absolute beginners.

The 20hr course format will be 6 x 2.5 hr sessions in which we slowly build our skills and trust within the group using both partner exercises and group work, and also a 1 x 5 hour intensive for creation of performance imagery, some of which will be photographed for your performance portfolios.

7 wk Course Cost: $220 ($200 EB’s available up to 2 wks prior to start date)

Our facilitator, Frauke Huhn has had first hand experience in the ‘radical-tenderness’ performance pedagogy of Gomez-Peña. Frauke travelled to LA in January 2018 to attended an intensive training with Gomez-Peña, Balitronica Gomez and Saul Garcia Lopez of La Pocha Nostra, and then again attended the Byron Bay La Pocha Nostra Intensive, that Public Act hosted back in October 2018. Frauke was also part of the Live Site Specific Performance working with Balitronica Gomez at The Byron Theatre last year.

Frauke has come back from Venice in Jan 2020 where she took part in The Venice International Performance Art Week to co-create with Marilyn Arsem, VestAndPage, Andrigo & Aliprandi and many other amazing artists. She can't wait to share her experience with you during the course!
